MOSES. Music, drama, “stage presence,” the upcoming religious movie from Fathom Events seems to have it all. Coming off a huge success with Paul, Apostle of Christ, this latest venture with Sight & Sound Theatres brings a Broadway quality to this well-known story. After watching the trailer for MOSES, it reminds me of the beloved Radio City Christmas show- complete with live animals! Look for camels, horses, donkeys, and sheep to become your new favorite film stars.

PerformanceProving the power of quality, faith-based entertainment, the filmed version of Sight & Sound Theatres’ epic musical drama MOSES earned a Top 5 box office ranking on its Sept. 13 debut night. Dramatically, this film outperformed huge studio films in theaters like THE MEG, MISSION IMPOSSIBLE-FALLOUT and BLACKKKLANSMAN. Nationwide, MOSES was presented in more than 700 movie theaters through Fathom Events. More than 91,000 people saw MOSES in cinemas across three nights, nearly doubling the audience from Sight & Sound’s first foray into filmed releases of its stage work—JONAH, in 2017. “We’ve been bringing the Bible to life on stage for over 40 years at our two locations in Lancaster, PA and Branson, MO,” Executive Producer Josh Enck said. “More than a million people experience a Sight & Sound show every year. But we’re limited in how many people we can reach by the capacity of our two live venues.” Enck continued, “It would have taken us nearly 50 live performances to reach as many people as MOSES did with just three showings in movie theaters.” The results point to strong demand for Sight & Sound’s unique product. It would appear that epic bible story productions can entertain and inspire the whole family. Additionally, it would appear that Sight & Sound is able to extend their unique experience from stage to screen. |
MOSES
- The movie’s composer, Don Harper, wrote the scores for The Lion King, National Treasure, and others.
- Building the set proved a major undertaking. Reaching three-stories high, its sixty sets took a full two years to construct at a cost of $2.5 million.
- A rotating treadmill for the animal stars is built into the stage!
- The “burning bush,” complete with realistic color, temperature, and texture changes, took over one year to perfect.

Filmed in front of a live audience, the original stage production was seen by nearly two million people at Sight & Sound’s theaters in Lancaster, PA and Branson, MO. “The burning bush, the plagues, the parting of the Red Sea and the Ten Commandments—the story of MOSES is massive,” Executive Producer Josh Enck said. “But at its heart, this is an intimate story of the man who climbed a mountain to meet God.” In addition to this incredible production, audiences will get a behind-the-scenes look at the 40-year history of Sight & Sound Theatres. These live stage shows have been seen by more than 23 million visitors worldwide. SynopsisSet adrift as a baby and now wandering in the wilderness, Moses is one unlikely hero. Until God calls him into action. From the Nile River to the Red Sea, journey with Moses as he leads God’s people on an amazing adventure toward the Promised Land. Filmed in front of a live audience at Sight & Sound Theatres, MOSES is the original stage production that has thrilled nearly 2 million people. During the 2016-17 season, it appeared in Branson, MO. The filmed version captures all the spectacle and grand scale that are signatures of a Sight & Sound show. Action takes place on three sides of the audience on a 300-foot panoramic stage . . . and in the aisles! The cast is decked out in more than 880 costumes as they bring Moses’ story to life. Taking MOSES to cinemas marks the second time Sight & Sound has moved one of its productions from the stage to the screen. JONAH played in movie theaters nationwide in 2017. About Sight & Sound TheatresSight & Sound Theatres began more than 40 years ago in rural Pennsylvania, where a dairy farmer went from producing milk to producing live entertainment with a purpose. Today that vision has expanded to two state-of-the art theaters in Lancaster, PA, and Branson, MO, where stories from the Bible come to life on stage. Each production features Sight & Sound’s signature massive sets, special effects and live animals. Still family-owned, Sight & Sound’s 675 staff members write, produce, design and build the original shows, drawing nearly 1.5 million audience members from around the world each year. |
