Headed to sea, me buccanEAR? You’ve reserved your quarters, set your sights on exotic ports of call, and gotten your papers in order. What’s next? If you’re joining Captain Jack to sail the Caribbean, you’ll need to get your crew outfitted before embarkation. With planning, you can become part of the world-renown Disney storytelling on the high seas. Avast ye! Here’s some shipshape planning tips for your Disney Cruise Pirate Night.
On select voyages of the Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Fantasy, and Disney Dream, there is a solid day (and night) devoted entirely to swashbucklers. The Pirates of the Caribbean are live and well on Disney Cruise Line! And since Disney is begging you to become part of the story, the more you oblige, the better the fun. Savvy??
Pirate Night Wardrobe
On land you can talk like a pirate, swagger like a pirate, or even drink rum like a pirate, but on the Disney seas you really do need to dress like a pirate. While a red bandanna will be delivered to each guests stateroom, each pirate “plus” you don will add to your personal Pirate Night storytelling.
Now, don’t ye be getting the cobbywobbles. There’s no need to squander all your spare doubloons on a fancy costume. Inexpensive accessories can set the stage:
Etsy shops are chock-full of Disney-esque tees for sale. If you’re a lucky pirate, you will have your own personal stylist in Magical Run Concierge. (I will share her with you, mates!)
Or, have some fun with DIY. My shipmate Shannon from Purveyor of Pixie Dust crafted our group those authentic Pirate Mickey Ears. You can too!
If you board ship and realize you need to up your pirate game, there are items sold (albeit expensive) on board. Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will makeup the entire family and offers Pirate League Packages just for Pirate Night; be sure to make these reservations early!
OR, you can do that yourself too:
Headed out to Pirate Night? Maybe you’re ready for some marauding on Castaway Cay? Place your valuables/Key to the World card around your neck for hands-free enjoyment. (How else will you balance that Drink of the Day??) Mickey style, of course; in black, pink, and red.
Pirate Entertainment
During the day, look for special events in the youth clubs and pirate-themed movies such as my family’s favorite- Muppet Treasure Island. At night, it’s all hands on deck for the legendary “Pirates in the Caribbean” Deck Party. Activities that day/night move at swashbuckling speed, so again, make a pirate-y plan.
Take the oath and get thee landlubber legs a-dancing at Club Pirate. Disney Characters (in their best pirate finery) delight all ages with a stage show followed by dance party and meet-and-greets. DO get a coveted photo with both Captain Jack and Pirate Mickey. Especially if you have followed the instructions above. Though lines may get long (queue up late or early), you will want a memento of your lil’ scallywags in their pirate garb. Trust me.
Thar she blows! The show is topped off by the famous Disney Cruise fireworks at sea. From your spot on the deck (mid ship is prime viewing), you’ll have a crow’s nest view of color, all set to your most beloved pirate movie tunes. As expected, these fireworks are weather-dependent.
Another fine tip- inspect ye cabin for evidence that the pirates have been looking for (and leaving) some treasure!
Pirate Grub
Son of a sea biscuit! This is a cruise, after all. That means unlimited FOOD, so get ye fill me hearties. During your restaurant dining rotation, you can expect some pirate specialties, such as Black Beard’s Jumbo Crab Cake, Jolly Rogers Barbecue Rib Salad, and Floating Island. Dinner service moves quickly, so stop to relish the craftsmanship. And do pirate-dress for dinner; you’ve done the work, so show it off! After the fireworks, another must is a stop at the late night buffet. Even if you’re not hungry (really?), it’s worth admiring the Disney detail in the carvings and displays. You may be fearful to loosen your captain’s brass buckle belt, but you shouldn’t fret about the calories. You can weigh anchor and run the Disney Cruise Castaway Cay 5K the next day. Savvy?
So, plot your course, your wardrobe, and your schedule before you sail to map out the perfect day at sea. Check your app- the Personal Navigator- to stay current on the festivities while on board. This way, you can fill up on arrrrr and arrrrr. Yo ho!!
