Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar | Grog, Grub, and Gags

Blog· Dining· Disneyland· MOVE

Trader Sam's
HippopotoMai-Tai

The “Head Salesman” of the Amazon Jungle has diversified.  This Jungle Cruise mascot has expanded his business and is now peddling grog, grub, and gags at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar.  Based at the Disneyland Hotel, this spot is so much more than a watering hole.  Immerse your senses, if you are a true explorer, and let me be your personal guide.  (Be sure to follow Trader Sam’s House Rules: blow dart guns are NOT to be used as drinking straws!)

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar

Sam enlisted the services of the Jungle Cruise Navigational Company to decorate the bar with memorabilia from his global travels.  Nods to the Jungle Cruise are many; bartenders are Skippers, shrunken heads are used for decoration, and “Sweitzer Falls” is on the menu.  But Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, Indiana Jones, and Typhoon Lagoon are also featured.

The magic elixirs served here are the products of years of potion research.  Beware adventurers!  Grogs with mystical powers often disturb the tiki gods!

Enjoy your cocktail creation by the bar (where the crazed action is) or on the more tranquil outdoor terrace.

Have no fear.  (Mostly.)  Sam’s offers beer, wine, and No-Booze Brews on the menu too!  ** Please note, that after 8 pm the establishment observes a 21 and over policy.

Grub

Sam knows from his exploits that man does not live on libations alone, so he has an equally tantalizing Appetizer Menu or “cruise-in.”

Chicken Lettuce Wraps and Sweet & Spicy Asian Wings

And my absolute favorite:

Kahlua-Style Pork Flatbread

Gags

All this tameness brings me to the highlight of any exploration to Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar; the show.

On select evenings, this duo provides Polynesian entertainment on select evenings in the outdoor terrace.  Close your eyes and you may think you have been transported to Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort.  Inside, the hijinks and lava heat up.  While sitting at the bar, choose your stool wisely…  Your beverage too…  Order a Shipwreck On the Rocks, but don’t get lost at sea…

When ordering the Krakatoa Punch, be sure to duck.

Thar she blows.

The true sensation of Sam’s establishment has to be the Uh Oa!  Behold skippers, if you dare.

Grog, grub, gags; Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar has it all.  It remains one of  best bars and lounges at any of the Disney parks. I could spend an entire afternoon into evening immersed in this adventure.  (Who am I kidding?  I have!)  It is perfection; the merger of the best of Disney storytelling, yummy food, and good clean FUN.  It is no wonder Walt Disney World Resort recently opened its own Seven Seas hideaway called Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto.  Can I hear a Kungaloosh?!

I love this place! We visited last year and it was a ton of fun. It was very crowded so after spending some time inside, we sat outside at the outdoor fireplace which was incredibly relaxing!

It really is two completely different experiences, isn't it? After a busy day, listening to the live music outside is absolutely one of my favorite Disneyland things Rosanne!

I LOVE Trader Sams. I always try and make a night of it there when I first arrive at Disneyland. It's a great way to get in the spirit without having to pay for a park ticket you'll only use for a few hours. I can't wait to try the Disney World version soon as well!

That's exactly what we do Morgan! Trader Sam's is a theme park experience without the park ticket price!

Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you knew of any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates. I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this. Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.|

Visit their newest archeological dig- uncovering the site of one of the oldest Black churches in America. Here free and enslaved Christians came to worship during Revolutionary times at the First Baptist Church.

A step back into Christmastide- 18th Century style- might be particularly appropriate this year. #ColonialWilliamsburg #Virginia #Christmastide #Americanhistory

My last NY to FL road trip was in 1975. At that ti My last NY to FL road trip was in 1975. At that time, between Philadelphia and this destination there were miles and miles of billboards along I-95 (believe it or not, there are far fewer today- in the 70s, they numbered 250!!). Naturally, we were COMPELLED to stop here. Early social media at its best...

South of the Border was originally built on the North Carolina/South Carolina border in 1949 as a Beer Depot (NC was at that time a dry state). They capitalized on their location once again in 1962, when they started selling their now- “famous” fireworks (also then illegal in NC). Which is why this memory is such a standout for my family.

My brother NEEDED a stash of fireworks. Just what a kid from Queens craves? In the middle of August, and though we were not yet close to our destination, my parents caved. Those fireworks sat in the trunk of the family Impala (no air conditioning, mind you), and we proceeded to drive to Walt Disney World. Where the car sat, in the parking lot, on the blacktop, in near 100 degree temps, for over a week. How we didn’t cause a massive explosion at Disney’s Polynesian Village is a miracle that can’t be explained. Pixie Dust, perhaps?

Here’s to nostalgia folks. #I95 #SouthoftheBorder #fireworks #familymemories #itwasmybrother

My favorite part of owning the Marriott Bonvoy car My favorite part of owning the Marriott Bonvoy card? That annual free night. We strategically saved it for the @RitzCarltonAmeliaIsland. Located just 30 miles from Jacksonville, this barrier island was well worth the detour. And the Ritz? This property lives up to the name.

Though we just this once broke our “no elevators “ rule (we held our masked breath 😆) the Ritz-Carlton brand is one I trust for safety. #businesstravel #RitzCarlton #MarriottBonvoy #MarriottCleanlinessCouncil

Thankfully, the structure (and its Tiffany-stained glass windows) survived as @FlaglerCollege. Unfortunately, tours have been suspended due to COVID-19. I won’t wait another 50 years to return. 😉 #USNationalRegisterofHistoricPlaces #HistoricStAugustine #Florida

I haven’t stepped foot inside a church since @St I haven’t stepped foot inside a church since @StLouisCathedral on Ash Wednesday, but I masked up to say a quick prayer inside this oratory.

Built as the centerpiece of Ave Maria University and planned community, this Gothic steel and stone structure was designed by one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s students. Minimalist with the exception of the exquisite 30-foot sculpture depicting the Annunciation on its facade.

Inspiration. #AveMaria #oratory #Florida #middleofnowhere
