Today the series welcomes the 21st Century! And Amanda of The Disney Go To Girl fame to 50 Days to 50 Years. Didn’t the past 39 years go quickly? As they say, time flies when you’re having Disney fun… Therefore, set off the fireworks for Walt Disney World 2000!
Walt Disney World 2000
The Millennium Celebration officially began October 1, 1999. This “party” continued through New Year’s Day 2001. So Guests to Walt Disney World throughout 2000 had the opportunity to experience the ongoing special events of the Millennium Celebration. They included many, many ‘plusses.’
Speaking of Tapestry of Nations, who could forget the AMAZING Super Bowl Halftime Show featuring this phenomenal Millennium parade? In May, you may remember, Epcot transported this parade to Miami to be featured in the city’s Carnival Celebration.
Attractions
The year 2000 was my first Disney Quest Experience. Excitedly, I was able play the brand new Pirates of the Caribbean game which opened that May! We had a blast sailing the ship and firing cannons at the approaching enemies.
Also, this was the year Disney Imagineers unveiled plans for the upcoming construction of Mission: SPACE, a new thrill ride at Epcot.
Resorts
In addition, 2000 was also an exciting year for Disney Resorts! This was the year Dixie Landings began its merge into Port Orleans Riverside. Disney’s Wilderness Lodge Villas opened to guests in November of 2000 as well.
All in all, Disney welcomed the Millennium in true, unforgettable fashion. It will surely not soon be forgotten. I am so blessed to have memories of this unforgettable year in Disney history!
