Cinco de Mayo at Walt Disney World Resort
Cinco de Mayo, or the Fifth of May, is technically a celebration of the Mexican military victory in 1862. However, in the neighboring United States it has become a full-on fiesta of Mexican-American culture. Food, drink, music, and dance have become the order of the day! Perhaps the trickiest decision we have to make (other than which flavor margarita to start with) is where we’d like to party. For years, planning a trip to Walt Disney World Resort in early May has been on my bucket list. So for me, and possibly por tu, I have made la lista of Where to Celebrate Cinco de Mayo at Walt Disney World Resort.
Cinco de Mayo
La Cava del Tequila
The obvious spot to start would be Epcot’s World Showcase. The international flavor of this magical 3-miles lends itself perfectly to our fiesta. One could easily spend the day at the Mexico Pavilion and be in Cinco de Mayo cielo (heaven). More than usual, the mariachis will be out en fuerza. Of course, sombreros will beg to be donned and Gran Fiesta Tours will be taken. Then, la comida and las margaritas!!!
La Cava del Tequilla
Lunch at San Angel Inn Restaurante while sitting alongside a Mayan pyramid and the “river” inside this pavilion. A nostalgic family-favorite, it continues to offer a pleasant mood, basic food, and enjoyable dining experience. If the weather is beckoning you outdoors, La Cantina de San Angel is the spot for a lighter lunch, churros, and tacos perfecto.
Not hungry yet? La Cava del Tequilla is the MOST festive locale on property. This lounge’s margaritas, Mexican beers, and sangrias are unparalleled. Don’t ask me how I know.
Choza de Margarita
Hungry un pequito, perhaps? Then step outside to this newest destination Mexicano: Choza de Margarita. Their diverse choices of margaritas- Guava Pink Peppercorn, for instance- are a draw grande. Don’t overlook the cervezas, tacos, guacamole, and empanadas mejor!!!
La Hacienda San Angel
Dinner at La Hacienda San Angel offers not only fine Mexican dining (please read my review!), but will supply the added bonus of a spectacular view of Epcot Forever. Vamanos!!
Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival– Jardin de Fiestas
Celebrating Cinco de Mayo at Walt Disney World Resort comes with a bonus especiale.You can add the Outdoor Market- Jardin de Fiestas- to your tour. This year, the Pork Taco: Slow-braised Pork served with Apple Relish, Goat Cheese, and kickin’ chile de Arbol Sauce is muy, muy bueno. Paired with a Daisy Spicy Beer, and you have a snack perfecto.
Frontera Cocina
If you still have some steam and want MAS, head to Disney Springs and the Frontera Cocina. We had a la superior meal here a few months back. If possible, sit outside on the patio under the mini lights and savor the vibe. The food here is quite authentic to Mexico (thank you Chef Rick Bayless), and the staff extremely polished and knowledgeable. Even if you are stuffed, you must go and check out the “Tequila Wall of Fame.” After all, no Cinco de Mayo is complete without showing some serious respeto to this national liquor of Mexico.

As it approaches seis de Mayo, check-in at one of my favorite spots, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort. (Just be warned; there is construction a-mucho at this resort!!) You will continue to be immersed in Mexican color and flavor here, and you can keep the party going the following morning (afternoon) at Pepper Market. This quick service eatery offers everything from breakfast burritos to more margaritas in a setting that screams fiesta. If you spend the day relaxing at the Lost City of Cibola pool, you may look for dinner at this resort. The menu at the resort’s Maya Grill is standard Mexican and American. Pero, the House Guacamole is quite good!!
Cinco de Mayo at Walt Disney World Resort
Deserving of honorable mention is Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Cafe located in Magic Kingdom’s Frontierland. The Fajita Platter, Taco Burger, Burritos, Queso Dip, and their famous “make your own” Beef Nachos make this counter service establishment a perennial favorite. Also worth a holler is Boardwalk Joe’s Marvelous Margeritas. (Hello Patrón Añejo Margaritas!)
Have you screamed Olé, Olé, Olé yet? I know I have. Celebrating Cinco de Mayo at Walt Disney World Resort will remain on my Disney bucket list for one more year. What have I left out? Will I see you there next May?? Andale!
Loved our meal at Frontera! The food and service were impeccable, and I loved the atmosphere on the patio. Contact wait until we can dine there together again my friend!!
Thanks for the great tips! Coronado Springs would be the perfect resort for a Cinco de Mayo celebration. I have to confess I have never had a Marguerita. It’s on my bucket list.
